Compare your Medigap prescription drug coverage and costs with the coverage and cost of the Medicare prescription drug benefit to determine the coverage that is best for you.

	If you already have a Medigap policy that covers some prescription drug costs and you decide to enroll in a Medicare drug plan, contact the company that provides your Medigap insurance. They will remove the drug portion of your Medigap coverage and adjust your Medigap insurance premium downward.

There are two categories of Medicare drug plans.
Just as no two people are the same, no one drug plan would be able to meet every person’s needs. Select from one of the two categories of plans below.

	Stand-Alone Drug Plan (PDP) Stand-alone drug plans provide coverage only for the Medicare prescription drug benefit. They are meant to be used along with Original Medicare or with Medical Savings Accounts (MSAs). (Some people in Original Medicare also have a Medigap policy that covers some of your cost-sharing for Medicare Parts A & B services.) They may also be used with Private Fee-for-Service (PFFS) Plans that do not include the Medicare prescription drug benefit, or with Medicare Cost Plans.
	Medicare Health Plan Medicare health plans can combine your Medicare hospital and doctor coverage with your Medicare prescription drug coverage into one Medicare health plan provided through a private insurance company. These plans help coordinate your health care and often provide additional benefits. They may cost you less.
