2. Becoming Eligible

You become eligible for Medicare in several ways.

You turn 65 and have met the Social Security and Medicare requirements.
You are under 65, have a disability, and have met the Social Security and Medicare requirements for Medicare coverage.
You are under 65 and have end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
